Fun Times With Pat J.

Last week I got together with my friend Pat for a stamping day, including lunch, show and tell and a trip to Spring Hill to see a new stamp store.  Lunch and the store were okay, but the time stamping with Pat was the highlight.  She showed me two techniques (actually had done them so long ago I forgot) and got me started on being able to do them myself. 

First was a gorgeous stenciling technique with gold leaf.  The stencil was filled with gold embossing paste and after it had dried a bit, gold leaf was pressed into it.  Here’s two of her samples, one on black with the gold leaf and one on gold with white:

Here’s the one I started working on, showing the paste, offset spatula and brush.  All the gold leaf hasn’t been brushed off, yet.

Here’s the stencil.  I liked this so much, I have the paste and the stencil ordered.

The other technique is one I saw the first time at a class at Priceless.  It uses silhouette stickers and ultra-fine glitter.  The class I took used different colors of glitter, which I didn’t get into it then.  The glitter is expensive.  Pat used white glitter and colored in the silhouettes with Copics.  Here’s a few of her cards.  Gorgeous.

These next two use the same sticker design, one gold, one black, and they’re colored differently. Love them both.  I’ve bought what I need to do this technique myself.  This is much prettier in real life.

Here’s some other cards Pat showed me and she gave me the first two.  The first one uses a different fold and herringbone embossing folder and . . .

this one uses a window die and Lovely as a Tree.  The black layer is actually shiny gold and very classy.  Going to make some of these. 

On the left, these flutters make a very simple card and on the right, the flutters are colored and layered on rounded squares.  Very cool.

This card is gorgeously colored with tiny punched butterflies for embellishments. I think this was white on gold, again, not black.  Hard to tell. Pretty, either way.

Therese’s Make and Takes

I have been remiss in posting pictures of the cards I have made with Therese, so I will catch up on some.  First, here’s a cute Scottie dog.  Love the plaid paper behind him.

These two pics are the closed and open views of a nice fold.  Works well for Father’s Day or a guy’s birthday.

Cards, Beautiful Cards

Wow, two posts in one day.  I received some lovely birthday cards and wanted to share them before too much time had passed since I got them.  Thanks to all of you.

This first card is from Patty.  That frog looks just thrilled to be another year older, sorta like me.

This came as a BRAK from Becca at Splitcoast.

The waterskiing pyramid card is from my sister.  You open it and it plays “Wipeout” by the Surfaris.  Listen to it here:

Jeannie gave me this pretty green One of a Kind card.  I should be so skinny!

  

Misty, my friend in St. Louis sent me this lovely little card with Boho Blossoms punched out and added.

Pat J. made me this gorgeous water colored card.  She stamped and colored the butterflies twice and fussy cut them to pop them up with dimensionals.  I wanna be Pat when I grow up.

Angie Blew Me Away!

Anybody who has read my blog, knows that Angie Juda is one of my inspirations.  She is one of Stampin’ Up’s best demos and always earns cruises and trips to the Founder’s Circle.  Angie does great video tutorials  on her blog, http://www.chicnscratch.typepad.com/, and is super generous with all her knowledge about stamping.   She does Ustream videos which I have not managed to participate in live, but you can go to her channel and look at them all.  Her latest Ustream video, recorded July 1, is a page-by-page look at the new Idea Book and Catalog.  If you don’t have your hands on a catalog, yet, this is the next best thing.  http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/15755397  She flips each page and talks about her favorites.  Loved it, even though it was an hour and a half long.  Check it out!

Merry, Merry Christmas!

With the help of a couple of friends, I’ve drummed up enough spirit to share what they sent me on my blog.  While I sat in front of my webcam wearing a Santa hat while chatting with my very good friend Dee in St. Louis, I opened the box she sent me.  In it was a darling (and unbroken) glass ornament of a little silver schnauzer.  Dee knows how much I miss my Lady girl.  Also in there was a glass canning jar (also unbroken) full of the makings for barley soup!  Then a tin of spritz and butter cookies, the ones with powdered sugar on them!  Last but not least, was this gorgeous Christmas card with a silver embossed snowflake and embossed brushed silver CS.  Very classy!

Dee is coming in early January and will be my guest at the Creative Images shoebox swap.  Can’t hardly wait!

That same day, my fellow demo friend Diana Gibb in Arizona heard my plea for one of her little owl calendars.  I had commented on her blog, here, that I’d love to have one and she sent it to me!  Here’s a pic I swapped off her blog.  Mine has different colors, but her pic is better than my scan.  The back is covered in a magnet sheet to go on the fridge.  The eyes are little jewels.

Di also sent me one of her Christmas cards.  I’ll have to borrow Pam’s Northern Flurries embossing folder to CASE this someday.  I love how she stamped the date in red and punched it out with the small oval.  You’d think SU would’ve made a punch to fit perfectly, but nope.

Yep, it was Di’s card on her blog here that I learned her tip:  “To get that Real Red Decorative Label punch layer behind the white punched out image, cut the punched out red label in half and then glue it under the white punched one, it gives the "look" of being layered but its really the same punch.”  I used that idea on a make and take for Helen’s workshop and my Christmas swap tags.  Di’s blog is one of my favorites that I visit almost every day.  If clicking on the “here” links doesn’t work for you, copy and paste this into your browser:  http://dianagibbs.typepad.com/stampin_with_di/

Lookee what Dee Did!

When my St. Louis friend Dee saw the ship card at the end of my June Creative Images’ post, she really wanted something like it for her son’s birthday card.  Robert is a sailing fan.  Each sheet of diecuts comes with enough for two cards.  Soooo, I sent the other picture to Dee to do with what she would.  She got the ships in the mail in time to make a card, and what a card!  We were chatting on line and she shared a picture with me of her first design.  She said she was having a problem with the greeting and a punch to fit it.  I reminded her about Teeny Tiny Wishes, the word window punch and the modern label punch.  That was just what she needed.  She didn’t have the Modern Label punch, but she had the die cut from the movers and shapers and that worked, too.  With her little brass embellishments, stitching and cord, it came out perfect.  Dee gave me permission to blog her card, so here it is!

This card was truly a joint project between Dee, me and our Aussie buddy, Tracy.  Dee’s camera made the colors all weird and dark.  So when I sent a pic to Tracy, she photo shopped it to be more like the real card (Night of Navy base, Soft Suede and Whisper White card stocks).  Dee took the ships that I assembled (you can see the five twisted layers if you click on the picture) and made this gorgeous card and Tracy fixed it so it would reflect what it is in real life.  We do good work!  Robert really liked his card, too.  He oughta frame it!

Pam’s Life’s a Beach Card

Pam missed our exchange last month, but she sent me a picture of her card.  She gave me permission to post it here and told me where to go to get information on how to make it.  Click on it to enlarge it.  Pam used the reeds from Autumn Days for her beach plants and Summer by the Sea (sadly, retired).  Pam said she colored the kids with an aqua painter and the ink-in-the lid technique.

Air Mail from Down Under!

I got two, count ‘em, two little packages from Oz yesterday from Tracy and her son Edyn.  One small envelope and one positively stuffed envelope, both with gorgeous air mail stamps, one of a lovely waterfall and one of a kangaroo with her joey.  It actually worked to scan them, but they are kind of small.  Click on the pic to enlarge for detail.  Tracy mailed these last Thur. or Fri. and I got them already!  Way to go Aussie posties!

I had been expecting something from Tracy, but not from her 12-year old son Edyn!  He told his Mum he wanted to make me a card, too, conceived his own design, asked for what he needed and made this great card!  I love the two layer balloon made with a faux button. Will have to make me some balloons like this someday.  I just love this card!  Edyn used his Mum’s Cuttlebug die cut alphabet to make my name and he hand drew “Happy Birthday” and the balloon on the matching DSP.  Inside he thanked me again for sending him Jack London’s White Fang, which he still likes to read, and expressed a wish to see the Space Center.  Would love to take him to see a launch at the Cape and to tour the Kennedy Space Center.  Somebody hurry up and win the Lotto!  When I showed this card to Russel, he said, “You have something very special there” and I do.  THANKS, EDYN! 

Then, I got to open Tracy’s envelope.  She wrapped that sucker in packing tape so it wouldn’t explode in the mail.  Needed to take after it with a knife to get into it!  LOL  Inside, besides the card, I found a cool Asian alphabet rub on set and three little packs of half pearls.  Tracy and I are firm believers in never having enough poils!

This card is a joint effort by Tracy and our St. Louis buddy Dee.  Dee sent some Bellas to Tracy to play with and Tracy sent one of them to me.  I think they might have even designed it together with the miracle of modern technology and Tracy’s web cam on MSN.  Lots of glitter and bling!  Love the wire arms and the wire bow on the bucket of rubies.  Friends like Tracy and Dee make my heart happy, too!   Click to enjoy the details!  Isn’t she gawjus!  Me likeeeeee!

BRAK’s! I got BRAK’s!

My birthday was last week and I received some Birthday RAK’s from some friends and a total stranger. 

The first one is from Dell on the BRAK committee at Splitcoaststampers.   The yellow petals are sort of textured with some kind of thick acrylic, maybe.  The center of the daisy is popped up and sparkles with glitter.  Thanks, Dell!

Cheryl made this lovely dragonfly, colored with Twinkling H2O’s, I think.  Pink is my favorite color!  Thanks, Cheryl!

 

Gale made this purty card with some Autumn leaves BG paper, some Primas and a great silver maple leaf brad.  I have some of this paper and have been hoarding it for years and years!  LOL  Some people actually get into their stash and use it!  Thanks, Gale!

Pam played with all kinds of stuff on this one.  SU’s Ski Slope DSP, her swirly CB embossing folder, ticket, scalloped, oval and flower punches, Pocket Silhouettes and her brand new Teeny Tiny Wishes.  Thanks, Pam!

OMG, Two in One Day!

Well, I promised Dee I would let her know what Russel thought of her birthday card to him, so I will do one better and post it here. The scanner kind of washed it out, but it's lovely browns and coppers. The brown ribbon is accented with copper cording for a definitely guy touch to the ribbon. The brads and anchors in the center of the wheels is a nice touch, too. Russel wanted me to make sure and thank Dee for the card, so here it is: "Thanks, Dee!" He likes it, he likes it!

New from Down Under!

My Aussy Buddy made me a gorgeous card using the Fifth Avenue rose and the WOW technique where you watercolor with reinkers after spritzing with water. I had embossed some of them onto shimmery CS and sent them Down Under. I got this lovely card back along with some stamped images from Build a Roo that I will play with some day.

I Love My Auzzy Buddy

My friend Tracy Down Under had a friend come to US on vacation and she delivered a package of goodies to our St. Louis friend Dee. My package came from Dee Friday and I had to share what Tracy made and what I'm going to do with it.

First up, here's the journal Tracy made me along with some Purely Pomegranate ribbon that is retired in the US and a darling little Owly she crocheted. He now sits on my monitor stand, staring at me with his big brown eyes!

Here's a close up of the owlies Tracy made for Dee and I. A matched set! Sooooo cute!

Here's the open first page of the journal, along with my other two little "pressies" from Tracy - some deep purple pearls and a tiny little book that has 8 pages. I love my journal, especially my plans for it, the idea of which I also got from Tracy!

This morning, Tracy shared with me a link to Angie Juda's blog where she has made a You Tube video tutorial of a darling little hippo made out of punches. Check out Angie's blog at http://www.chicnscratch.typepad.com/. Angie has been making a punch book with all kinds of cool critters in it made with SU's punches.
