Deland Road Trip Part 2

After Pam and I had lunch and with some GPS problems overcome, we headed over to the Stetson Mansion, yes, that Stetson, he of the famous hats, and arrived for the tour just as the group was heading inside.  JT, one of the owners, was our guide, and our one hour tour was almost two hours.  I had read on the website for the mansion, here, that photography was not allowed inside, so I didn’t take my camera.  For the quilt show, photos were allowed, so I did the best I could with my phone.  I highly recommend that you go everywhere on the Mansion’s website.  It has a great history of the house, the renovation, better pictures, short videos, tour information, etc.  I am for sure going to the Christmas tour.  Wow!

Most memorable to me were the stunning floors, a different hand-made parquet design in each room.  None of the floors except the kitchen needed to be repaired, just buffed out and revarnished.  I took a few pics, but I oohed and aahed over them all.  There were quilts everywhere, all gorgeous.

JT explained some of the renovation work he and his partner Michael had done on the house, including stripping wall after wall of wallpaper.  Mind boggling what they accomplished in 18 months.

Here’s two pics of the floors, each piece done by hand.

The whole day was exhausting because of the heat and bright sun, but Pam and I made it home before we collapsed in heaps to recover.  It was a day very well spent.

Deland Road Trip Part 1

I got an e-mail from my favorite shop in Deland, the Quilt Shop of Deland, here. It told about a quilt show at the Stetson Mansion and gave a link on how to reserve a spot on a tour.  So, I did, and Pam and I made the drive to Deland on Saturday.  Our first stop was the Quilt Shop where we both had a hard time not spending a fortune on a new technique we both loved.  Maybe some other time, but here are some pics of the chenille tool, purse and quilts.  Click on any pic for details, then back to return.  You sew narrow seams on multiple layers of fabric, then slice through one layer at a time with the nifty rotary cutter with its little guide.  It looks like old-timey chenille.  This is the tool and the purse available in a kit.

Here are close-ups of a sunflower and hydrangea quilt.

Judy Hanson is the owner of the shop and she designs fabrics and quilts, like the owl quilt shown here.  My Aussie Buddy loves owls and is starting to get into quilting.

One of the shop ladies worked up this postage stamp quilted wall hanging of the Stetson Mansion.  I bought the panel to try to make my own some day.

This cute little yoyo sewing basket/pin cushion and candle holder have a kit at the shop and I bought it so I could make a candle holder with some of the Christmas fabric I have to put into a Longaberger button basket.  Some day!

That’s it for the quilt shop.  We had lunch at Parker’s Restaurant just around the corner from the quilt shop, really great hamburgers.  Now, I’ll do the Stetson Mansion.  Thanks for stopping by.

Pam’s Father in Law’s 90th Birthday Celebration

Pam’s last few months have been pretty busy, especially all the work she put in on table decorations for her father-in-law’s 90th birthday party up in Marquette, Michigan, on July 5.  I helped her a little bit and between my pics and hers, we can share everything she made to decorate for the party.

First, she needed to make a whole lot of spring cards.  I had shown her how to make them years ago.  Surprised she remembered!  Here’s the basic card before folding.

Spring card 1

Here are a blue and red one, before the greeting at bottom or the 90.

Both spring cards

Pam needed 80+ of these and I helped her cut and score the red and blue cardstock.  She cut all the tiny pieces of designer paper.

Pam at work

With the help of Pat J, Pam made all the 90’s with either red or silver shiny CS cut on Pat’s Cricut.  Pam then popped them up on each spring card.

These are the little battery-operated tea lights Pam decorated to match the other decorations.  Colors are not very good in this pic of the red, white and blue candles.

Finished tealights

Here’s two of the centerpieces Pam made a bunch of for all the tables.

Here’s some of the tables decorated.

Pat J gave Pam the idea for this birthday card she made for her FIL.

FIL's BD card

The card started with a graph pattern stamped on plain white CS to which Pam added DSP and a greeting.  Below are two cards Pat J made with that graph stamp.

That’s it for Pam’s party stuff.  She said her FIL had a blast and so did everyone else, about 60, including family and guests from Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Wales and England!

Thanks for stopping by.

July Creative Images Meeting

Good Grief!  July already.  Well, at least the summer is buzzing by.  There were only eight of us at the meeting last week, but everyone who came made an exchange card.  The theme was “Summer Sizzle” and we have certainly been doing that.  I can’t wait for August to be over, after which I can say I survived another summer in Florida.  I know it is still hot in September, but not so brutal.  Without further whining about the weather, here goes.  Click on a pic for detail and back to return.  I don’t like dates on each picture, so Russel fixed that for me.

The first two are how I like them, side by side.  On the left is Cheryl B’s beautiful mermaid and on the right is Cheryl M’s flamingo collage.

This is my little beaver, Chopper, chilling in an inner tube with an umbrella drink.  My name on the back was covered up by the envelope and Therese asked who made this as she was handing out the exchange cards.  I gave her a surprised look.  “Seriously?”  Then she noticed the tail and buck teeth.  Oops!

Pat J made this lovely water colored background.  Gonna have to go play at her house and learn how to do it.

This is Therese’s “Bacon in the Sun” card.  Sizzling for sure.  Love it!  Yumm.  Bacon.  My favorite food group.

A Jewish friend came to my sister’s son’s wedding in May and I had made some bacon dip for a BBQ we had.  He tries to keep kosher, so I told him he could have some as it was imitation bacon.  He said, “Ah, yes, facon bacon.”  LOL

Pat R had the project for July.  She showed us a technique making a background with embossing powder and a Piece of bubble wrap.  Turned out really cute.  The next two pictures are her samples.

These next three show and tell pics are finished pages out of Therese’s Journal.  Therese said it used “spray inks, paints, stencils, flowers, anything and everything.”

Last, but not least, here is a pic of Pat R’s proposed project for our January stamp camp.  The flowers are repositionable stickers with white micro-fine glitter colored with markers and then stuck on a votive candle holder.

That’s it for this month.  Thanks for stopping by.
