When I went to my sister’s in January, I also worked on the invitations to a shower Betsy was giving her future daughter-in-law the week before the wedding. Pat J had shown us a cake made out of CS boxes at our stamp club. Here’s Pat’s cake. I loved it and when I showed the picture to my sister, she wanted it for her shower centerpiece with something special in each slice as a party favor. Be sure and click on each pic for details, then back to return.
Pat gave me the pattern for the slices and I got them copied, scored and cut out before I went to Betsy’s. I had found a Cricut cartridge that had a cake slice box, too, so I cut enough in both colors for a second layer.
Pat even gave me the ribbon with swirls to wrap around the bottom layer.
The night before the shower, my sister and I stuffed each slice with a chocolate truffle.
Here’s a close-up of the final cake.
Betsy also wanted me to make invitations to her friends for the shower. Russel helped me cut all the circles on my Big Shot.
Betsy also wanted name tags and thank you cards. Little sisters are a lot of trouble, you know. I made the name tags . . .
. . . to match the invites and started the thank you cards . . .
. . . when she said she had already bought thank you cards for Katie. Ooops. What to do with the 15 cards I had already made? I had been wondering what to get Katie for a shower present, so . . .
. . . I used a Paper Pumpkin box for cards, envelopes, labels I printed up and stamps and wrapped it to sort of mirror the wedding invitations.
Here’s the cake as a centerpiece on Betsy’s table. Fit perfectly on a nice glass cake stand. It got lots of questions on how it was made and plenty of compliments, too.
Here’s Katie and her sister opening presents. Matt is the baker and he will use that pie plate a lot.
Here’s Katie holding up the recipe card box Betsy gave her, among other things. This box had been our mother’s recipe card box.
With each invitation, Betsy enclosed a recipe card to fill out with a favorite recipe to bring to the shower. She asked me to make divider cards.
Here’s Katie admiring the “First Year” scrapbook her mother had made her. Each month was decorated on a two-page layout. Gorgeous!
Here’s some of the ladies picking out their slice of cake. The truffles inside were a hit! They got to take their slices home.
Here’s the remains of the cake!
Linda, another card maker, made this card for Katie and wrote the “keys to unlock a successful marriage” on the inside. Perfect.
Whew! That’s it for the shower. Thanks for stopping by.

Kathy, first you are one great helpful sister! Second, I would have loved to have been there to see all your great art work in person. What a thrill, it must have been for you to be such a big part of you nephews wedding celebration. Your pictures were great too. I enjoyed seeing all of the excitement, on your blog. What fun, for all.

Hey Sis,
The pictures of the "cake" process were fun. I still have a couple of EMPTY slices here. Katie used the thank you cards for the shower gifts, good feed back on how pretty they were. I got a store made one, sokay....
I'm sure your friends will be impressed by Anchor Paper where we cut the invitations. I will admit that I'm happy the wedding, etc. is over. It was great to have you here.
Love,
Betsy
