May Creative Images Meeting

I was in Minnesota for my only sister’s only child’s wedding in early May and sick when I got home and unable to attend the meeting.  Pam took the pics for me and I got them resized and organized to blog them.  I have a new computer desk and did really good to find the thumb drive Pam had put the pics on, but no way I could find her list!  But her memory was good and we got them identified.

I’ve also been working on lots of pics of Matt’s wedding, the shower, the reception, etc.  I will get them blogged pretty soon.  For now, here’s the cards from the May exchange, theme a sketch card based on this:

Sketch plan

Comparing the sketch to the cards, everyone made a good stab at it.  First is Cheryl B’s cheerful birthday card.

Ex-Cheryl B

Then Jeannie’s retro ladies with fibers.

Ex-Jeannie

Pat J made this card to Celebrate.  I wonder if she made the background or used DSP?

Ex-Pat J

Pat R used her new stamps and punches to do these flowers on vellum.  I want to try this.

Ex-Pat R

Therese did this lovely flower card.

Ex-Therese

Genny did May’s project, faux patina.  The first three are Genny’s samples and the last one is Pam’s finished card.

Sample 1sample 3

sample 2sample Pam's

Genny e-mailed the instructions and I am copying them here:

Instructions for faux patina technique

Choose embossing folder and stamp all over with a light brown stamp pad on the inside “written side”.

Take white or ivory color cardstock 4 ¼ by 5 ½ insert in folder and run through bigshot or cuttlebug. This step helps give card dimension.

Pick two blend able colored stamp pads. Any ink pads will do. Using the jumbo sponge daubers dab the light color here and there around half the card. Then take the darker color and fill in the white spots. Take the light color and go over the same light color but here and there blend into the darker color. That should create a third color. Keep doing that on until you achieve the effect you want.

VERY IMPORTANT! DRY CARD WITH HEAT GUN BEFORE CONTINUING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When thoroughly dry, take gorgeous grunge stampin’ up stamp( look up in catalog if you don’t have one) and stamp card using versa mark. Or use a similar background stamp. Dip in gold embossing powder and heat emboss.

Thanks, Genny.  I’m going to try this.  Pat J told Pam she’d help.  I hope so!

That’s it for May.  Theme for the exchange card in June is “Europe.”

Thanks for stopping by.

Creative Images April Meeting

As you all know, I’ve been busy getting ready for my nephew’s wedding in Minnesota for months, now.  Finally down to just the packing, but will take a few minutes to try to get this post done.  After all, I’ll be back just before the May meeting!

Our exchange card theme was “English Garden” and Jeannie did our project.  First up, the exchange cards.  Our newest member, Cheryl B brought in this lovely green card, but once you open it . . .

. . .  Lovely!

Here’s my water colored card.

Pat J made this delicate card with really tiny punched flowers.

Ex-Pat J

Pat R did this gorgeous card with vellum and embossed flowers and butterflies.  I have to try this.

Ex-Pat R

Therese water colored these cute potted bunnies and flowers.

Ex-Therese

Cheryl M did the only card with an actual English garden theme, but we all did flowers, at least!

Ex-Cheryl M

Edie colored this beautiful vase of flowers.

Helen made this pretty pansy card but . . .

Eleanor did this milkweed.  I think it was made with the faux silk technique.  Beautiful.

Ex-Eleanor

Jeannie showed us how to make a project called batik on paper with salt.  Pretty and unique designs great for backgrounds.

Since Jeannie had the project, she brought in a couple of ideas for proposed projects for our January stamp camp.  The first is a picture of what she will make to bring in next meeting, a cool technique with embossing powders.

Jeannie Proposed 2

Her other proposed project is a bound notebook for keeping track of what colors you have.  She admitted it is too complicated for the stamp camp, but she brought it in anyway.

This is a reminder of the sketch card for the May exchange card.

Just because, this is a thank you card I gave Pat R for her online order.

Thank You

That’s it for April.  Tomorrow is May!

Thanks for stopping by.

Edie’s Stampin’ Up Workshop

On the 15th, Edie hosted a terrific workshop and earned tons of free stuff and three items 50% off.  The seven ladies there had a great time.  First, I did some show and tell, showing off a wreath I made from an SU kit in the Occasions mini.  Here’s some pics from while I was making it and the finished product:

Edie’s sister Nancy brought in this card she had made from one of the Sale-A-Bration sets, some SAB DSP and an SAB embossing folder.  Very nice.

Happy.jpg

The first make and take we did was a darling flower box.  I split the different steps up and didn’t show them the final product until we were ready to put it together.  First we put together the little flower inserts.  I had to make the flowers without the SU punch as it was backordered.  But we made do.

Flower Box2

Then I passed out the makings for the boxes.  Totally CASE’d the colors and DSP from Diane Dimich’s sample.  More on that below.

Flower Box1

We then put the flower inserts inside the box and everyone loved them.

Flower Box3

Best thing about it is that it folds flat and fits in a regular card envelope.  A real WOW card for someone to receive.

I found my inspiration from Diane’s post on Splitcoaststampers here.  Her card had a link to her blog here.  She has a fantastic video tutorial on her blog.  Watching it, I learned it well enough to show all the ladies at the workshop.

Our second make and take is from the birthday card I made for Pam.  I used the hexagon hive thinlit and little silk flowers (again, the punch to do what I wanted was back ordered) with pearls.  I cut several of the hexagons out of the bottom right so the sentiment would fit in.  The ladies had fun with the thinlit, making their own cards.

Here’s Jeannie, Nancy and my hostess Edie working away.

Edie took a picture of all of us gathered at her table.

It was a wonderful workshop thanks to Edie and all my great customers!

Be sure and check out Diane’s blog.

Thanks for stopping by.

March Creative Images Meeting

We had a good meeting a couple of weeks ago and almost everyone brought in an exchange card.  After a momentary panic, I found my little list of who made which music themed exchange cards.  I got my pics processed and here we go. Click on any pic for details, then back to return.  I got the first four to put two side by side, then couldn’t get the rest to do it.  Grrrrr!

First is Cheryl’s gift of music, then Ella’s study in black in red.

Ex-CherylEx-Ella

Genny made this colorful hummingbird and Helen made the musical notes.

Ex-GennyEx-Helen

Jeannie made this toadally jazzed froggie birthday card.  More fussy cutting!

Ex-Jeannie

I made this hexagon hive card with musical DSP.

Ex-Kathy

Pat R. made this birthday card with her new words Cricut cartridge.

Ex-PatJ

Pat R. captured Elvis in this card.  I saw Elvis in person, long, long ago, far, far away, in his white jumpsuit and cape period.

Ex-PatR

Therese made this fussy cut cello collage.

Ex-Therese

Our project by Tange, given by Therese, was a gift bag.  I have no pics of it.  My bad.  Mine got crushed.  Oh, well.

I made the next card from a kit as a thank you for an online order by Genny.  Merci!

Merci

Next month’s theme is “English Garden” and Jeannie has the project.  See you then.

That’s it for this month.  Thanks for stopping by.

February Creative Images Meeting

We had our February meeting Wednesday night.  It was pouring out and several members were either under the weather or reluctant to get wet, but we managed to set the exchange themes for our next calendar and get volunteers for several months’ worth of projects.  Tange will be contacting everyone about filling in the rest of the calendar.

Our exchange theme this month was “Asian,” but only three cards were exchanged.  I’m sensing a trend!  Only three last month.  Genny’s is first.  Sponged on glossy, embossed and laid out in three panels with die cut sentiment.

Ex-Genny.jpg

Mine is next, using Washi paper, red mirror CS and gold embossed sentiment.

Ex-Kathy.jpg

Therese had Jeannie bring in her Japanese gazebo scene, also using Washi paper and some fussy cutting on the Geisha.  Click on the pic for details and back to return.

Ex-Therese.jpg

Helen had the project this month and we made a cute Valentine using a neat pop-up technique that used strips of acetate sandwiched into the fold, a stamp punch and letters.  Turned out really neat.  Russel loved his!  This technique can be used for all kinds of things to pop up:  cupcakes, flowers, snowflakes, etc.

That’s it for this month.  Thanks for stopping by.
