So Long, Famous Amos

I got bad news today.  My brother Billy’s 18-yr old dachshund Amos passed away yesterday.  Started thinking of all the cool pics I have of Amos and decided to share them as my tribute to one dam good dog.  First up, Amos and his Dad.

Amos had many names:  Fearless, Famous, Brainless, Shameless and finally, Toofless.

The Rainbow Bridge inspired by a Norse legend By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still. Where the friends of man and woman do run, When their time on earth is over and done. For here, between this world and the next, Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest. On this golden land, they wait and they play, Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. Their limbs are restored, their health renewed, Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued. They romp through the grass, without even a care, Until one day they start, and sniff at the air. All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back, Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack. For just at that instant, their eyes have met; Together again, both person and pet. So they run to each other, these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last. The sadness they felt while they were apart, Has turned into joy once more in each heart. They embrace with a love that will last forever, And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Going, Going, Gone!

Stampin’ Up has released their lists of retiring stamp sets and accessories.  I’ve done an e-mail to my customers with the changes and said I would post pics of cards I have made with the retiring sets here.  I was going to put them in the e-mail, but there are too many.  Breaking my heart, it is.  sniff   SU promises there will be lots of new stuff.  So here goes.

Creative Images April Meeting

We had our third meeting at Hobby Lobby and it looks like it might be working out all right.  We have had some shrinkage in our membership and several were unable to attend, but we got a new member, Shannon.  Jeannie invited her and she joined that night.  Woo hoo!

Our exchange card theme was “How Sweet It Is,” and we got six to trade.  First, side by side, Therese’s Brumble’s Bakery with fussy cutting and Helen’s die cut cupcake with lots of bling.

Here is Jeannie’s lacey box of candies.  “Friends are the chocolate chips of life!”

Two oldies but goodies, my sweet treat hot air balloon from my stash, and Pam’s fudge sickle.  Sweet, indeed.

Tange also used the sweet treat cups and the hot air balloon, filling hers with nonpareils.  Yumm.

  

Ella had the project, making an elegant 4-petal card with rich black and gold papers.  I stuck the little scallop with the bow on the back, but that is supposed to be used to keep the card closed.

I promised to include some pictures of Jeannie’s new long-haired dachshund puppy, Coffee, so here’s a baby picture Jeannie got from the breeder.  Probably six weeks here.  So tiny!

Pam’s Workshop 3/24/12

Pam hosted a workshop for me before the Sale-A-Bration mini-catalog expires the end of this month.  We started with ten ladies, including Pam, and silly me forgot to get out my camera.  Oh, well.  I showed the ladies how to make a diorama card (incorrectly referred to it as a “panorama card” at the workshop) with these as my samples:

The card on the left has an image from Apothecary Art mounted on die cut Framelits and inside is punched with the curly label punch and stamped with the frame and greeting from Elementary Elegance.  I learned how to make this from a March 10, 2012, video tutorial by Diana Gibbs on page 3 of her blog, here.  Diana received a card using this technique from Ann Clemmer at Founder’s Circle last year and it is easier than it looks.

Dawn Griffith has a terrific blog (no wonder she is Stampin’ Up’s top demonstrator!) with hundreds of video tutorials here.  The first four videos at that link are the bunnies and the basket (our first make and take) (Dawn’s picture) . . .

I adjusted mine to be a bit larger than the 3 x 3 cards Dawn made so they would fit in a regular card envelope.  I cut the back square to be 4 1/4 by 4 1/4”, the DSP to be 4 x 8” and the Very Vanilla to be 3 7/8 by 8”.  I scored them at 2” on one end and folded over the other end to match.  The “Hello” on the outside is from Elementary Elegance and the pretty image inside is from Fresh Vintage.  The DSP is Everyday Enchantment.

For our last make and take, I sorta kinda CASE’d an idea from Jan Tinklinberg’s March 17, 2012, blog entry here.  She called it Monochromatic (Almost) Fresh Vintage.  I liked the look, so I changed it a bit and came up with this EQP card, easy, quick and painless.  This also uses the Everyday Enchantment DSP.

Creative Images March Meeting

We had our short business meeting and exchanged the four cards submitted for this month’s theme, Joy Ride.  Then we made a gorgeous card for Pam’s project.  Pam found the project in Splitcoaststampers resource section here.  At the end of the tutorial is a video which really explains the technique.  Well worth watching before trying to do this. 

When processing the pics off my camera, I found some from Janice’s workshop for Therese last month.  Here’s pictures of the two cards Therese had for make and takes and Helen and Linda.

   

Here’s Ella’s bicycle built for two joy ride card.  Her background paper is bicycles, too!

Here’s my card with Chopper and friends sledding.  He was fussy cut and popped up on a scene with liquid appliqué for the snow.

Therese took hot air balloons for her joy ride card.  Brightly colored and fussy cut!

Because the theme is only a guide, Jeannie  submitted an Irish Prayer card.  I’m going to do up the prayer to print up and put inside my St. Paddy’s card below.

Pam and I did up several samples for her project.  This first one is an example of what not to do, i.e., don’t run the grey marker down the ditch between each square.  The printed tutorial was very unclear about this step.  The video tutorial was crystal clear.

Here’s my finished project.  The Serenity toile du jouy stamp is retired.

Here’s two more tiles done up, side by side, to show how another background stamp looks.  On the left is one made with glossy CS, on the right regular CS.  Both using the same ink pad.  Go figure.

On my way home, I had to take this picture of the neat cloud patterns for a storm that didn’t make it quite to Ocala after hammering Gainesville.
