Creative Images October Meeting

Before I start on the meeting, I have to wax poetic about the change in the weather.  Thank God it’s COOLER!  I have woke up the last three days to a house that is cooler than the setting of 74 that has been on the A/C since April, 24/7.  I actually started the last few days in a top that has sleeves!  Short ones, of course, but not a tank top!  Still in shorts and sandals, but that won’t change for another month.  Of course, now that it is late afternoon that I am doing this, I am in a tank top and the A/C has been running.  Oh, well. 
We had eight ladies at our meeting last Wednesday night, and with Pat J still getting a by on doing an exchange card, we had seven for our theme of “Ladies Wear.”  Also,six ladies participated in the ATC swap.  Ellie did the project for October, a darling Halloween card and she brought a great show and tell.

Ella fussy cut these lovely stylish outfits with pearls on a quilted/embossed background.

Jeannie made this lacy collage with a bra and a camisole.  She wanted to make sure I pointed out the sentiment on the front, “Where is the booby fairy when you need her.”

This is my card with the bra and panties made from a pattern my friend Misty found for me on Pinterest.  If I had it, I would have stamped “Thank you for your support” inside.

Pam made this power suit, including lacy edging, a sparkly necklace, and a button.

Pat R made this Halloween colored “Peekaboo” merry widow, with a little treat inside!

Eeek!  Surprise!  I love how she punched out the spiders on the white piece, drew in the webs, and added tiny eyes with a white pen.

Therese colored in these four old ladies “waiting for Mr. Right,” that laughed so hard they had “tears running down” their legs.

During the chaos of making our project and sorting out the ATC’s, I neglected to get pictures of two of them.  Luckily, I got Jeannie to make a list describing the ATC’s and who did them, so when I found I missed two, Pam texted me pics of them.  First up on the left is Cheryl B’s Life itself, gently sponged. Pam colored the Fall tree with a rake leaning on it. 

These two are Ella’s fussy cut owl and Pat R’s haunted house, that I think was either a die or a Cricut image.

Therese made these crazy Tim Holz birds. I don’t know if they were fussy cut or dies, but they were all cute.

Before she showed us her project, Ella shared with us her pumpkin full of “pumpkin teeth!”  Loved it!

Ella’s project really gave me a happy feeling as she liked my bendy Christmas card project from October 2013 so much, she made her Halloween card the same way.  You can see it through my archives to get the link to how I made it.  Ella die cut everything except the ghosts which we fussy cut.

This is my finished version.  While making it, I realized that Ella’s base was one whole piece of cardstock.  Mine had panels that were attached.  Ella must have had some really big cardstock, as opened up the card is more than 12” wide.  Hers was a lot easier to assemble.

Finally, it was my birthday on the 14th and I got some nice cards from Jeannie . . .

Pam’s Workshop, Finally

I know I have last night’s stamp club pics to process and blog, but last month I promised I would blog everything I could from the make and takes and demo I did at Pam’s workshop on Sep. 26.  Took me a while to get everything together and prepare to give credit where credit is due, so here goes.

First, as I said in my last post, I swear, it was snowing in Ocala! Click on any picture to see details, then back to return.

Our first make and take was inspired by the Stampin’ Up convention in August.  Up on the stage (recorded for later viewing by demos like me that didn’t attend), Sara Douglass made this gorgeous card with the set Wonderland, the Merry Moments DSP 6” stack, and the Merry Moments cardstock pack.  Here’s one of each color. 

Our second make and take was this gorgeous Flurry of Wishes card CASE’d from Leena Girsa, first seen on Pinterest, then the video on her blog here.  I didn’t have her Softly Falling textured embossing folder,but we made do.

Because we had time, I shared this ornament at my workshop and gave everyone enough snowflakes to make one for themselves.  I couldn’t figure out which lady at the SU convention did this on stage, but that’s where I saw it. The one I made is a combination of this year’s Flurry of Wishes with the Flower Medallion and Snow Flurry punches, and wooden snowflake elements I painted white, together with last year’s Festive Flurry snowflakes and framelits.

I saw this beautiful snowflake box on Pinterest, too.  Lynne Price, at this link had a great video on her blog on how she made hers.  Her accent makes her sound like Bridget in Bridget’s Diary!

I tried making hers which was confusing with her English measurements and when I actually got the box made, I realized that it was essentially the same as the little box I did as a make and take at Edie’s workshop in March of 2014.  You can drop down in this blog to see pics there, together with links to how to make it.  At Pam’s workshop, I gave everyone a pattern to make their own box.  The box I made was much smaller and less elaborate than Lynne Price’s box and fits in a regular quarter-card envelope.

Last, but not least, I showed everyone how to easily cut detailed diecuts using dryer sheets.  The sandwich I found also called for wax paper, but Pat J convinced me wax paper was not needed.  It was a real WOW moment when I lifted the die off the sandwich and peeled the cardstock off the dryer sheet, leaving all the tiny bits of butterfly behind.

The sandwich I used, from the bottom up, was:

Magnetic platform (nice but not critical)

I got four layers of dryer sheet by unfolding two new ones and then refolding them in half.  This is the dryer sheet sandwich that works for my Big Shot.  The sets I used were Butterfly Basics and Watercolor Wings, with the matching Bold Butterfly framelits and Butterflies thinlets.

Using this sandwich, I cut enough butterflies to make everyone a butterfly.  At home, I then made enough to make thank you cards to include in everyone’s order.  I used the new fine tipped glue pen to put down the words.

September Creative Images Meeting

We had our meeting on September 9 and since I’ve slept since then, let’s hope I can manage to blog them sensibly.  I did process the pics, i.e., resize and rename them, a couple weeks ago with a little help from Pat R, so we should be okay.  Our theme was Autumn, challenges were due and Jeannie had the project, color burst water coloring.  So, here goes.  Everybody that brought in an exchange card, did great Fall submissions. We owe a quarter if we don’t have an exchange, but Pat J got a pass for her really good excuse!  Her house burned up! Sorry, Pat, I couldn’t help it.

First up, Cheryl B’s cute little House Mouse flying away on a Fall leaf. 

Cheryl M (more on her later!) made this little row of pumpkins for a good Fall birthday card.

Ella did this fallen leaf with lots of texture by dry embossing.

Jeannie sort of had the same idea as Ella with her diamond shapes.

My card on the left is a CASE of Cheryl M’s swap from a couple months ago.  I really loved her card, obviously!  Pat R made this darling shaker card with tiny leaves flying around.

Therese didn’t do a card, but she brought in this cute Halloween treat bag for her exchange.

Next we voted on our challenge entries.  Too bad we had no fourth prize, as we had four entries!  I was amazed at all of them. The challenge was to do something with a Cricut cartridge box, a little oar, and some paint chips.  I had absolutely no idea what to do, so didn’t.  First is Cheryl B’s outside and inside, a little jewelry box. Next is Cheryl M’s box with a pretty snowy scene on the outside and inside was a little Christmas in the snow and woods.  Her oar was what held the box open.

This was Pat R’s box with a door and wreath on the outside.  I love her mail slot!  Inside is a window on Fall and a doggie in the recliner looking out the window.  I think Pat R won first prize.

I’m sorry, but I don’t remember who won second and third prize.  Slept since then.

Jeannie showed us a new watercolor technique she found at Stampfest using a very intense finely powdered medium.  Here are pictures of her samples.

The leftover powder on your palette can be used to die ribbon, etc.

Cheryl M shared with us her news that she and her man of 40 plus years were getting married in the new year!  Here’s her engagement ring.  Best wishes to both!

Finally, because I can, here’s a teaser on what I’ve been so busy with for last week or so.  Getting ready for a Stampin’ Up workshop at Pam’s this Saturday.  The snow be getting deep in Ocala!

Will post pics after the workshop to show you all what I did with all these snowflakes and the gold embossed ones not shown here.  I have silver and gold glitter everywhere!

August Creative Images Meeting

We had a small turnout for our meeting last Wednesday, but we still had fun.  Cheryl B had to back out of doing her project for health reasons, so I volunteered to bring in one of my Paper Pumpkin projects that I had bought a refill kit for.  This was the PP for December 2014.  First we did our exchange cards with the theme of Vintage/Shabby Chic.  Click on any pic to enlarge, then back to return.

I had no idea what shabby chic actually was, but these first two ladies apparently knew!  First is Ella’s pink feathered explosion (she named it).  Next is Pat R’s collage arrangements of butterflies, pearls, doily, flowers . . .  Both perfectly shabby chic!

 

Jeannie went for vintage and shabby chic, with a Roaring Twenties lady behind net and embellished with ribbons and flowers.  Mine is definitely vintage, two stylish ladies taking a walk on the Seine in Paris.  My sister said they look like ladies out of Downton Abbey!

Pam made this lovely embellished fan out of a folded doily and added ribbon, borders, embossing, flowers . . .

My project was made with the shaker card PP.  I had enough spare parts that each lady got to make what they wanted, birthday cards!  Pam had her own PP kit, so she just helped with her stamps and ink spot.  I only took a picture of the thank you shaker card I made.

 

For show and tell,I also brought in another card from a PP kit I had made before, Thanks a Latte.  The kit had everything in it, including the paperclip with the bow already on it.

At my request, Pat J brought in two cards for show and tell that she had recently made for her online group.  Here are pics of the outside and the inside of each card.  The first has a diamond fold and could stand up.

The second has 3-D gifts inside.

July Creative Images Meeting

We had nine ladies at last night’s meeting (yes, I am posting before 24 hours is passed) and all but one brought in an exchange card.  How will our treasury make any money that way!  Our theme was H2O/Rain and everybody fit the theme, one way or another. We had lots of rain and several umbrellas!  Click on any pic for a close-up and back to return.

First,we have Cheryl B’s card that is raining umbrellas!  Like a scene out of Seattle where they call them bumpershoots and even have a festival for them. Yes, it rains that much in Seattle.  Next is Cheryl M’s bashful manatee that thinks it might be a mermaid.  Background with glossy CS turned out well.

Eleanor did this tottery old couple with their doggie, letting friends be an umbrella.

Jeannie did this pensive blue lady on the beach under her brolly (that’s what Canadian and Brits call their umbrella).

Here’s my clouds lined with aluminum to pretend to be silver linings.  Pat J made this rain or shine black and yellow brolly, with yellow/gold Stickles. 

Pat R made this pretty pink brolly with her rain falling up hill.  Pat J said I was awfully strict for insisting that rain fall down hill, but hey, gravity works!  Therese made this bright little rain on your parade card with my favorite technique, fussy cutting!  The rain and puddles are from a die! 

Pat R’s project was Christmas in July. She used an old SU die for the wreath and Cherry Cobbler and Mossy Meadow for the CS.  We could use tiny red jewels or red Stickles for the berries.  Really cute card, Pat.  Thanks.

Stampfest was a couple weekends ago in Lakeland.  Cheryl M drew the short straw for having to drive, but decided she’d take herself and the two Pats in a stretch limo.
