Angela’s Crop

I’m not a scrapper, but I was invited to a crop by Tange to demonstrate my Big Shot and do a make and take. Angela’s house in Summerfield is huge and to die for! It is called White Rose Plantation and has its own website here. {Just to make sure, ya'll do know that when I type "here" and it is in a different color, that is a live link, right?} You can see how this great house was constructed and how it looks today! Lots of room for 10+ scrappers to spread out between the dining room, foyer and living room. Here’s a few pics I took before

Yep, that’s Gale! Kelly had this nifty drink holder, trash container. Gotta find me one of these!

This is Terry’s little boy. I never caught his name, but he wore the cutest little bib during lunch – a camo print with “Major Trouble” on the front. Love it! He was no trouble at all, talking to and entertaining himself with a bag of Cheetos and his toys. He zonked out for a nap after lunch!

This is the little 6 x 6 make and take page I put together using printed letters which I fussy cut and colored and the four leaf shapes that come on the Leaves 2 Bigz die for the Big Shot. I sponged the edges of the leaves, curled the tips over a bone folder and drew veins on with a Versamark pen.

I made some drawing prizes for this workshop and another I am doing later this month. This little candy bar holder can be found on Angie Juda’s Chic ‘n Scratch blog here. {This is another live link!} Look at her Sept. 29 post. Today, Oct. 4, she posted her video tutorial on how to make these.

I made a belly band with the Haunting Wheel and wrapped it around a film-strip punched orange layer. The two ladies who won them were really happy.

Angela’s Dad made lasagna as our main course at lunch and everyone else brought yummy dishes, appetizers, salads. I brought dessert and everyone wanted the recipe. I’ve had this recipe for almost 30 years, given to me by my sister from Minnesota. Whenever any of her friends bring this dessert to a potluck, someone would say, “OMG, you brought Redford!” I told the ladies at Angela’s I would put the recipe here:

The Next Best Thing to Robert Redford

First layer:

1 Cup Flour

1 Cup finely chopped pecans

½ Cup butter, melted

Mix flour, butter and pecans till crumb like. Press into bottom of 9” x 13” pan and bake 25 minutes at 325 degrees until golden brown. Cool.

Second layer:

1 8 oz. package of cream cheese, softened

1 Cup powdered sugar

½ of an 8 oz. container of Cool Whip (I used light as if that would make this less fattening! LOL)

Beat well and spread over cooled crust

Third layer:

1 large package of chocolate pudding (butterscotch, banana cream and lemon also work great)

1 large package of vanilla pudding

4 Cups cold milk

¼ Cup powdered sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

Mix until smooth and thickened. Spread over cream cheese layer

Fourth layer:

Spread last half of Cool Whip over pudding layer. Sprinkle with grated chocolate bar. Refrigerate until chilled.

Connie’s Workshop

Connie hosted a workshop in her fabulous crop room (we’re working on getting her to do more cards!) and along with Connie, we had nine ladies.  We made the flower pot I previewed last time and a Mother’s Day/birthday card made with retiring colors.  The ladies didn’t object to me taking pictures, so here goes.  As always, click on the pic to see it in detail.

First, Connie’s table set up.  We had room for lots more, so we will probably be discussing having a shoebox swap at her house sometime this summer. 

This next pic is half the ladies showing off their flower pots.  They all managed to look a little different with everyone’s details.

I learned how to make this pot from Kerin Sylvester’s video tutorial:  here.  Her video is great. Love that Daisy flowers, 2, die that I used to make all the flowers.

This last pic is one of the samples I made using Garden from the Heart.  Colored the hat and gloves with markers and fussy cut them out.  Lovely Lilac, Orchid Opulence and Yo Yo Yellow are all retiring.

Cheryl’s 8/16/09 Workshop

I finally had time to process the pictures and figure out what to do here to answer everyone’s questions about the various samples I had at the workshop or that we made.  First up, the pictures.

Here’s my sample of the quilled rose we did as our first make and take.  I used Whisper White, Pink Passion, Pretty in Pink and Old Olive cardstocks, the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder, the scalloped circle #2 Big Shot die (both sizes for both roses), the little leaves Sizzlet, the large oval punch and the scalloped oval punch.  Sentiment came out of Oval All, stamped with Pink Passion ink.  If you don’t have the Big Shot die, you can also use the scalloped circle punch and make two small roses.  As bases for the roses, I used the 1” and 1 3/8” circle punches.  For a really cool video tutorial on how to make these roses, check out Valita’s blog here.  The roses tute was her first, but she has several more. 

Next is our second make and take made with SU’s new Autumn Days.  Cardstock was Sahara Sand for base and Soft Suede and Crushed Curry for the Top Note layers.  We dragged or sponged Soft Suede and Dusty Durango inks across the top layer, fussy cut out the sheaf of wheat and pheasant, popped them up on Dimensionals and finished off the pheasant with white Signo pen on his neck.  We had stamped the pheasant on the top layer, so we wouldn’t have to cut out his legs and feet for the popped up bird. 

Here’s the second table with the “Ettes,” Pat, Pam and Marcella.  Pam is a very good friend who gladly helps out as my “staff” at a lot of my workshops.  I don’t know what I’d do without her!

Now for the questions.  I had a nifty box full of chocolates, made with Flamingo designer paper, with Top Notes on the top and bottom.  There’s a picture of the box with a link to the instructions on my April 5 post. 

I had a matchbox with an alligator on it with my black brads for the Autumn Days card.  My June 23 post has pictures of my alligator box and cards and a link to Angie Juda’s blog, Chic ‘n Scratch, where she has video tutes on how to make all kinds of cool things with punches.  It was Angie’s blog that showed me how to make the little bear bookmark we did at Cheryl’s workshop, as pictured on my June 1 post.  That’s where you’ll find the little sheep.

Cheryl was a great hostess, again!, and fed us all really well.  Love, love, love Marv’s Marvelous Soft Ginger Cookies!  When I end the summer boycott of my oven, I’ll make me some.  If Cheryl says it’s okay, I’ll post the recipe here.

Holly's Workshop

Well, I wanted this card at the end, but I can't figure out how to move it, so here it is at the beginning. The cardstock is Dusty Durango, black glossy and brushed copper. I embossed the sentiment (from Kind & Caring Thoughts), weeds/flowers and pheasant from Autumn Days in black on the copper CS. I tried to do the black grosgrain ribbon in a kind of remembrance bow. I demoed this card, sorta kinda, on brushed gold, using Basic Black CS instead of glossy and turned it on its side and put rubbon border along the bottom. This is my original design.

Holly hosted a lovely workshop on July 7 and we made a couple of nice make and takes. The first one is uses the new Autumn Days stamp set, Whisper White, Soft Suede and Crushed Curry cardstocks and Dusty Durango and Soft Suede inks. I CASE'd this card directly off of Splitcoast at http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1393998. Having problems with links again, but if if doesn't work, you can copy and paste to look at my inspiration. We stamped the pheasant and fussy cut him out, not bothering with his feet, then stamped just his feet on the card face before attaching rest of him with dimensionals. Russel suggested that the pheasant would be more lifelike if he had a white neck like a real pheasant, so we took the Signo white gel pen to his neck. A very simple guy card.

Our second make and take was also lifted right off of Splitcoast. http://splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1385528. Instead of tearing the Chocolate Chip layer, we punched a border with the eyelet border punch. We also used Dusty Durango for the base and the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Janice's Last Chance Workshop

Sorry it took so long to get these up, but I've been having a hard time getting time and motivation to work on my blog in synch! Several friends have been bugging me, so here goes.

On June 14, I had a last chance workshop with Janice and met a couple of new stampers. We all enjoyed the make and takes, but SU, in it's infinite wisdom, retired most of what I was doing for make and takes. First, we were going to make this darling alligator card, but SU is retiring the Kiwi Kiss CS and the Key Tag Punch, so I just made these as samples. Got the alligator idea from Angie Juda's Chic 'n Scratch blog. She makes the cutest critters with punches and set off a frenzy for the Key Tag Punch with her alligator. By the date of my workshop, it was all sold out, so I didn't even bother to demo this little guy. Angie has lots of video tutorials and her alligator video is great. She has a new puppy one, too. Having trouble getting a link to work here, so can only tell you to go to www.mychicnscratch.com and scroll down right side of page to punches. The above may or may not be a live link, but you can copy and paste it into your search engine.

This card and alligators were made with Kiwi Kiss, basic black and Whisper White CS, and a bunch of punches: Spiral, Key Tag, 1/2", 1/4" and 1/8". Angie used the scalloped edge punch for his teeth, but since I don't have that one, I used my scalloped edge scissors. I used the rounded side for the bottom left gator and the "negative" side for the other two so he would have sharp teeth like a real gator. The matchboxes are a new die from SU that I borrowed from my upline Vivian.
This is a pic of the 6 cards I made to go into a simple portfolio made with designer series paper (DSP). I made one card from each of the retiring In Colors and stuck some matching retiring DSP behind the 1" band of CS. This was a very simple card, punched up a bit from a design on Angie's Chic 'n Scratch blog. I gave this set to my hostess.

Our first make and take was this Father's Day card. I had him all planned and SU retired the Baja Breeze and Pacific Point CS and promptly sold out of the Baja Breeze everything. Oh, well, we all made him anyway. For those without fathers, they put Happy Birthday or whatever as the sentiment. The guests (can't call them "ladies" as Marvin was there!) really loved the reflection technique using waxed paper.

Marvin took my design and ran with it, doing the same scene on the inside but without the reflection. Carmen did that to the inside of her card, too. Turned out smashingly, don't you think?

After all the work of the first make and take, I had everyone make this simple thank you card with the retiring Lovely Labels. I didn't have a lot of Pacific Point CS left, so it was really simple.

Buuuut, Carmen went crazy with a scrap and the Eyelet Border Punch and came up with this! My digital screwed up the colors, but it turned out great. Too bad I didn't have enough Pacific Point CS for everyone to do this to their cards!

May 31 Workshop!

Had a great workshop Sunday afternoon where we made two nice make and take cards and a cute little bookmark with punches.

My first picture is the Wow watercoloring technique taught at the Stampin' Up Regionals in Seattle and found all over the place on stamping blogs. The first place I saw it was at a doctor named Lynda's blog here: http://stampingdoc.blogspot.com/, specifically her May 10 post. For this card I used Pink Pirouette, Basic Black, Whisper White, Riding Hood Red and Shimmery White cardstocks. I embossed the Fifth Avenue Rose on Shimmery White, then did the watercolor technique Lynda explained much better than I could. I finished this off with the Little Leaves Sizzlet (cut into three pieces), sentiments from Oval All, stamped in Riding Hood Red on Whisper White CS and punched out with the Large Oval punch and in Craft Whisper White on Riding Hood Red CS and punched out with the Scalloped Oval punch. The ribbon is the new Organza ribbon. It was fun watching the ladies play with the reinker and watercolor brushes and they all turned out gorgeous! Different, every one!

I wanted a snazzy hostess gift, so I tried out the flower pot I saw in a video tutorial at Amy Celona's blog: http://ustamp4fun.com/flowerpot-accordion-card/. I messed around with Amy's pot, making it bigger and changing the shape of the top, but essentially, it is the same.

This is what the inside of my card looks like, before I put the thank you from Oval All in the bottom left corner, layered with the large and scalloped oval punches. Totally CASE'd Amy's flowers and layout, though I did make the accordian a little different (same color as the pot and narrower). When I opened the pot, there was a gasp from all the ladies and my hostess was blown away when I gave it to her. I love 2-step stamping with Rose is a Rose and fussy cutting. Can you tell?

This is a sample I made with Nature's Silhouettes using a brayer on glossy cardstock with Not Quite Navy ink. I used a 1/2" circle as my mask for a moon. Happy Father's Day was from All Holidays.

This is what we made as our second make and take. Very simple card made with Upsy Daisy with Whisper White and Old Olive cardstocks, Old Olive and Chocolate Chip inks and the 1" Chocolate Chip double-stiched grosgrain ribbon. CASE'd this idea from Andrea Bowden's gift box of cards in the Papercrafts Magazine on sale now with 225 cards and gifts. Andrea's card was square, simply stamped on white cardstock. She had a bunch of the cards in a gift box with a clear acetate lid, tied up with 5/8" Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon. I liked the look, but put my ribbon around an Old Olive layer before mounting it on a white card base. It was very simple and the ladies loved it.

Last, but not least, I surprised the ladies with this little guy. I kept what we were making a surprise until everyone had all of his pieces in front of them. When I took out my sample, everyone at the table let out a collective "Awwwwwwww!" We assembled him, drew on his face, stuck him together with pop up glue dots around the big paper clip and ta daaaaaa! I got the instructions from Angie Juda's blog, Chic' n Scratch, specifically her May 21, 2009, Stampin' Academy, here: http://www.chicnscratch.typepad.com/stampinacademy/. She has some really cute animals made with punches, most recently the little hippo. This paperclip would look great on the front of a card, slipped into a little pocket as a handmade gift.
