Pam’s Workshop, Finally

I know I have last night’s stamp club pics to process and blog, but last month I promised I would blog everything I could from the make and takes and demo I did at Pam’s workshop on Sep. 26.  Took me a while to get everything together and prepare to give credit where credit is due, so here goes.

First, as I said in my last post, I swear, it was snowing in Ocala! Click on any picture to see details, then back to return.

Our first make and take was inspired by the Stampin’ Up convention in August.  Up on the stage (recorded for later viewing by demos like me that didn’t attend), Sara Douglass made this gorgeous card with the set Wonderland, the Merry Moments DSP 6” stack, and the Merry Moments cardstock pack.  Here’s one of each color. 

Our second make and take was this gorgeous Flurry of Wishes card CASE’d from Leena Girsa, first seen on Pinterest, then the video on her blog here.  I didn’t have her Softly Falling textured embossing folder,but we made do.

Because we had time, I shared this ornament at my workshop and gave everyone enough snowflakes to make one for themselves.  I couldn’t figure out which lady at the SU convention did this on stage, but that’s where I saw it. The one I made is a combination of this year’s Flurry of Wishes with the Flower Medallion and Snow Flurry punches, and wooden snowflake elements I painted white, together with last year’s Festive Flurry snowflakes and framelits.

I saw this beautiful snowflake box on Pinterest, too.  Lynne Price, at this link had a great video on her blog on how she made hers.  Her accent makes her sound like Bridget in Bridget’s Diary!

I tried making hers which was confusing with her English measurements and when I actually got the box made, I realized that it was essentially the same as the little box I did as a make and take at Edie’s workshop in March of 2014.  You can drop down in this blog to see pics there, together with links to how to make it.  At Pam’s workshop, I gave everyone a pattern to make their own box.  The box I made was much smaller and less elaborate than Lynne Price’s box and fits in a regular quarter-card envelope.

Last, but not least, I showed everyone how to easily cut detailed diecuts using dryer sheets.  The sandwich I found also called for wax paper, but Pat J convinced me wax paper was not needed.  It was a real WOW moment when I lifted the die off the sandwich and peeled the cardstock off the dryer sheet, leaving all the tiny bits of butterfly behind.

The sandwich I used, from the bottom up, was:

Magnetic platform (nice but not critical)

4 layers of dryer sheet

Cardstock

I got four layers of dryer sheet by unfolding two new ones and then refolding them in half.  This is the dryer sheet sandwich that works for my Big Shot.  The sets I used were Butterfly Basics and Watercolor Wings, with the matching Bold Butterfly framelits and Butterflies thinlets.

Using this sandwich, I cut enough butterflies to make everyone a butterfly.  At home, I then made enough to make thank you cards to include in everyone’s order.  I used the new fine tipped glue pen to put down the words.

Edie’s Stampin’ Up Workshop

On the 15th, Edie hosted a terrific workshop and earned tons of free stuff and three items 50% off.  The seven ladies there had a great time.  First, I did some show and tell, showing off a wreath I made from an SU kit in the Occasions mini.  Here’s some pics from while I was making it and the finished product:

Edie’s sister Nancy brought in this card she had made from one of the Sale-A-Bration sets, some SAB DSP and an SAB embossing folder.  Very nice.

The first make and take we did was a darling flower box.  I split the different steps up and didn’t show them the final product until we were ready to put it together.  First we put together the little flower inserts.  I had to make the flowers without the SU punch as it was backordered.  But we made do. 

Then I passed out the makings for the boxes.  Totally CASE’d the colors and DSP from Diane Dimich’s sample.  More on that below.

We then put the flower inserts inside the box and everyone loved them. 

Best thing about it is that it folds flat and fits in a regular card envelope.  A real WOW card for someone to receive.

I found my inspiration from Diane’s post on Splitcoaststampers here.  Her card had a link to her blog here.  She has a fantastic video tutorial on her blog.  Watching it, I learned it well enough to show all the ladies at the workshop.

Our second make and take is from the birthday card I made for Pam.  I used the hexagon hive thinlit and little silk flowers (again, the punch to do what I wanted was back ordered) with pearls.  I cut several of the hexagons out of the bottom right so the sentiment would fit in.  The ladies had fun with the thinlit, making their own cards.

Sale-A-Bration (SAB) Workshop

We had a great workshop at Jeannie’s last Saturday, or as Jeannie likes to call it, a “funshop.”  Jeannie is very happy with the free stuff she earned and she got herself a Big Shot half off!  Almost everyone earned a free SAB set, too.  Love that free stuff.

As a little background for what we played with at the workshop, in January, Stampin’ Up hosted a Sale-A-Bration Celebration in Orlando.  I went with Jeannie and Helen and had a good time.  After dinner at Uno’s, we went to the Convention Center and learned a few cool ideas with the SAB sets, a couple techniques, and Helen took lots of pics.  Thanks, Helen, for giving me all your pics on a CD! 

First thing we really liked were two cards made by Brandi Barnard with the SAB Vine embossing folder (EF).  She cut strips of cardstock, stuck them to another piece of CS, then ran it through the Vine EF with her Big Shot.

Then she trimmed it, mounted it on a card base and embellished it.   

I really liked her concept, but not her execution.  The vine pattern was meant to be centered on each strip and I thought reversing direction of every other one would be more interesting.  Sooo, I CASE’d her idea but did it my way. 

I cut quarter sheets of CS, ran them through the Vine EF, took my Versamark pad straight to the CS to pop out the vines just a bit, cut the CS to strips 1” wide by 4” long and adhered them to the card front, alternating them in direction.  Much happier, I was.  I liked her colors better, so I see another one in my future.

I liked Brandi’s next card, too, and learned how to neatly put a notched banner end on the strips with a square punch.  Who knew?

Her final card was pretty, but I wasn’t crazy about her crooked tearing on the DSP or that her vine strips had two going one way and one the other.  Nice, but . . .

This is my sample of a make and take at Jeannie’s workshop.  The ladies liked mine much better, too.  Instead of Versamark on the Vine pieces, we brayered them with ink before cutting the strips.  This card is in Tempting Turquoise and So Saffron, using a sentiment from Blooming With Kindness and Tea for Two Designer Series Paper.

Another idea from the show in Orlando is from one of the samples on their wall.  It used the Elegant Butterfly and the Itty Bitty Butterfly punches and the Vintage Wallpaper EF.

I loved it, but thought it was a little detailed for a workshop, so here is my sample for our other make and take.  Instead of white on white, we used Riding Hood Red for the card base.  I love how the two punches fit together.  The sentiment is from Ciao Baby set punched out with the SAB petite curly label punch.

Brian Pilling was another speaker at the SAB Celebration and he demonstrated masking with the little cup from SAB Patterned Occasions. I loved this card so much, I have that SAB set coming to me soon so I can CASE this.

Pat’s Workshop

Had a very nice workshop for Pat R. and all the ladies were happy with their make and takes and my hostess was thrilled with all the free stuff she earned.  After some show and tell with my Big Shot of new Framelits, we did two make and takes.

Denise on Splitcoast was my inspiration for one of our make and takes made with the Christmas Lodge.  See her card here.  We didn’t use glitter or the green layer, but still very pretty.  Petals a Plenty is the embossing folder.

Emma on Splitcoast inspired our other make and take using the Papillon Potpourri stamp set you can see here.  I punched it up a little bit using the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder and some ribbon.  Used Modern Label and Word Window punches and Teeny Tiny Wishes for greeting.  The ladies could choose between Midnight Muse or Raspberry Ripple. 

As another sample with that same set, I made this card using a dotted swiss embossing folder and Itty Bitty Borders for the greeting.

Another sample I made with the Christmas Lodge is this one.  I used Crumb Cake and Cherry Cobbler cardstock and designer paper from the Festival of Prints Designer Series paper stack.  I used the Labels Collection Framelits and white gel pen to finish it off.

One last sample I want to share is done with the Praying Hands a la carte stamp.  Long ago, my mother painted (copied, of course) these hands for a good friend of hers.  It looked just like the original.  When I saw the stamp, I had to have it.  I used Thoughts and Prayers set for the sentiment and the lattice embossing folder.

Pam’s Workshop 3/24/12

Pam hosted a workshop for me before the Sale-A-Bration mini-catalog expires the end of this month.  We started with ten ladies, including Pam, and silly me forgot to get out my camera.  Oh, well.  I showed the ladies how to make a diorama card (incorrectly referred to it as a “panorama card” at the workshop) with these as my samples:

The card on the left has an image from Apothecary Art mounted on die cut Framelits and inside is punched with the curly label punch and stamped with the frame and greeting from Elementary Elegance.  I learned how to make this from a March 10, 2012, video tutorial by Diana Gibbs on page 3 of her blog, here.  Diana received a card using this technique from Ann Clemmer at Founder’s Circle last year and it is easier than it looks.

Dawn Griffith has a terrific blog (no wonder she is Stampin’ Up’s top demonstrator!) with hundreds of video tutorials here.  The first four videos at that link are the bunnies and the basket (our first make and take) (Dawn’s picture) . . .

I adjusted mine to be a bit larger than the 3 x 3 cards Dawn made so they would fit in a regular card envelope.  I cut the back square to be 4 1/4 by 4 1/4”, the DSP to be 4 x 8” and the Very Vanilla to be 3 7/8 by 8”.  I scored them at 2” on one end and folded over the other end to match.  The “Hello” on the outside is from Elementary Elegance and the pretty image inside is from Fresh Vintage.  The DSP is Everyday Enchantment.

For our last make and take, I sorta kinda CASE’d an idea from Jan Tinklinberg’s March 17, 2012, blog entry here.  She called it Monochromatic (Almost) Fresh Vintage.  I liked the look, so I changed it a bit and came up with this EQP card, easy, quick and painless.  This also uses the Everyday Enchantment DSP.

Mickey Mouse!

Had a marvelous workshop at Janice’s Saturday.  Mickey Mouse was her theme.  Janice always puts on a yummy spread and Saturday was no different.  Theresa did all the cooking for our breakfast party, including muffins, Mickey Mouse waffles, two kinds of quiche, bacon, lots of bacon, ham and sausages.  Did I mention the bacon?  I stuffed myself.  Here’s our gorgeous spread.  Most of us had our Mickey Mouse ears on, too.

Janice loves Christmas season.  Can you tell?

I showed everyone how to make a yoyo with SU’s new Scoring Tool.  Here’s my sample of something to do with yoyos.  Most of the ladies got to take a yoyo home with them.

Sharon won this yoyo Christmas ornament in a drawing.

Everyone also learned this cool origami diamond fold.  They got to make a pattern to take home and make more if they wished.  I learned this technique from Wendy’s blog here.  Scroll down to her August 3, 2011, post for her tutorial.

For the first make and take, we made this ornament card using the blossom builder punch, the greeting from Merry and Type and the decorative label punch.  We used Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder and shimmery cardstocks.  Most of the ladies chose to use gold ribbon to match their bows instead of the rhinestones.  Should’ve took a picture, they were so pretty.  I learned how to make this from Valita’s blog here.  Scroll down to her Sept. 23, 2011, post for her video tutorial.

 

This card shows the same technique, but using the ornament punch and a 1 3/8” circle punch.  I can also see this with hearts and scalloped circles.  Endless possibilities.

Our second make and take went much faster.  It used the new Snowburst embossing folder, the ribbon lace border punch, two scalloped circle punches and the 1 3/8” circle punch.  Colors are Wild Wasabi and Riding Hood Red and the Holly Berry Bouquet designer paper.  The largest scalloped circle was cut from Glimmer cardstock.

 

Last, but not least, here’s the hostess gift I made for Janice using the Language of Friendship stamp set, the bird builder punch and the boho blossom punch.  I used a magnet sheet on the back so Janice can stick this on her fridge if she wishes.  I can see making more of these in my future.

Theresa’s Workshop 6/18/11

Theresa just loves having workshops.  She earns such great hostess bennies and gifts.  LOL  We had eight ladies at Saturday’s workshop and we made fun cards with a retiring set and cool guy cards with The Open Sea set that Jeannie loaned me.  Janice let me have a couple pieces of her Nautical Expedition DSP.  Thanks, Jeannie and Janice! 

First, I made a couple of samples with The Open Sea that I used as drawing prizes. This first one is a center step card I learned how to make on Splitcoaststampers.com.  Frances Byrne did a tutorial here.  This technique uses a base that is 5 1/2” x 11” and you end up with a square card. 

I modified the sizes of the center step card to make two cards from one piece of cardstock, 4 1/4” x 11”.  Didn’t seem to make that much difference and the ladies loved making these for either Fathers Day or a guy card.

For our other make and take, everyone got to pick two of the motifs from the retiring Fun and Fast Notes to make two cards, plus a couple of images to take home.  I made these samples.

Here’s the ladies enjoying themselves and a nice pic of Theresa’s “no bake” cake made of multiple layers of a crispy sort of pancake she cooked in a frying pan, layered and frosted with whipped cream.  Yummy.
