Sale-A-Bration (SAB) Workshop

We had a great workshop at Jeannie’s last Saturday, or as Jeannie likes to call it, a “funshop.”  Jeannie is very happy with the free stuff she earned and she got herself a Big Shot half off!  Almost everyone earned a free SAB set, too.  Love that free stuff.

As a little background for what we played with at the workshop, in January, Stampin’ Up hosted a Sale-A-Bration Celebration in Orlando.  I went with Jeannie and Helen and had a good time.  After dinner at Uno’s, we went to the Convention Center and learned a few cool ideas with the SAB sets, a couple techniques, and Helen took lots of pics.  Thanks, Helen, for giving me all your pics on a CD! 

First thing we really liked were two cards made by Brandi Barnard with the SAB Vine embossing folder (EF).  She cut strips of cardstock, stuck them to another piece of CS, then ran it through the Vine EF with her Big Shot.

Then she trimmed it, mounted it on a card base and embellished it.   

I really liked her concept, but not her execution.  The vine pattern was meant to be centered on each strip and I thought reversing direction of every other one would be more interesting.  Sooo, I CASE’d her idea but did it my way. 

I cut quarter sheets of CS, ran them through the Vine EF, took my Versamark pad straight to the CS to pop out the vines just a bit, cut the CS to strips 1” wide by 4” long and adhered them to the card front, alternating them in direction.  Much happier, I was.  I liked her colors better, so I see another one in my future.

I liked Brandi’s next card, too, and learned how to neatly put a notched banner end on the strips with a square punch.  Who knew?

Her final card was pretty, but I wasn’t crazy about her crooked tearing on the DSP or that her vine strips had two going one way and one the other.  Nice, but . . .

This is my sample of a make and take at Jeannie’s workshop.  The ladies liked mine much better, too.  Instead of Versamark on the Vine pieces, we brayered them with ink before cutting the strips.  This card is in Tempting Turquoise and So Saffron, using a sentiment from Blooming With Kindness and Tea for Two Designer Series Paper.

Another idea from the show in Orlando is from one of the samples on their wall.  It used the Elegant Butterfly and the Itty Bitty Butterfly punches and the Vintage Wallpaper EF.

I loved it, but thought it was a little detailed for a workshop, so here is my sample for our other make and take.  Instead of white on white, we used Riding Hood Red for the card base.  I love how the two punches fit together.  The sentiment is from Ciao Baby set punched out with the SAB petite curly label punch.

Brian Pilling was another speaker at the SAB Celebration and he demonstrated masking with the little cup from SAB Patterned Occasions. I loved this card so much, I have that SAB set coming to me soon so I can CASE this.

Valentine’s Stamp Club

Surprise, ladies.  I am actually posting this on Valentine’s Day with the cards we exchanged at last night’s Creative Images meeting!  I guess it seemed appropriate to do it on Valentine’s Day.  It helped that Russel is home today and could process the pics off the camera for me.  I could do it, but his puter resizes the pics easier than mine.

We only had five ladies present last night, but three more sent in their exchange cards, so we had 8 great Valentines in our “All About Love” exchange.   Click on any pic for details and back to return.

First is Ella’s card.  Interesting crumpled tissue technique to add dimension.  Lots of glitter and little details.

Ella brought in Therese’s gate fold Valentine with lovely watercoloring.

Helen made this lovely delicate card, with tiny flowers with pearls.  I like how she punched two modern labels and cut the bottom one in half to show under the first one.

Helen brought in Herman’s card.  That “OR” on the outside was a strong warning.

Everyone cracked up when they opened it.  I got this in the exchange and Russel laughed out loud, too.

Jeannie’s card has punched layers with a “my friend” sentiment with a cute heart clip.  Helen also brought in Lona’s card which uses embossed shiny red CS reminiscent of her Spirelli string techniques.

  

I had to make two of this “love you” card with tiny embossed hearts.  Russel loves his card.  I hid them both from him, to surprise him today.  He processed these pics before I gave him his card, but he knew this one was mine when he saw the pic.  He recognized my style!  Love him.

Tange made this gorgeous red and black Valentine, using punches and embossing folders. Lots of layers.  Will have to CASE this one next year.

Helen had our project last night, a cute basket made with a heart box die.  My picture of her sample came out horribly, but here it is.  It has brads on the side holding on the ribbon.  Ready to be stuffed with chocolates!

Helen had also planned on another project, so she brought it along in case we had time to give it a try.  It uses the screen that Lona gave us and is called “punchinella” or something like that.  You ink up the screen, lay down your card front, and brayer it to transfer the ink.  I think we all gave it a try.  I like how she colored her roses.

Tange brought a card for show and tell, and just because, I took a pic.  A lovely Christmas magic card.

I’d like to finish up with sending good thoughts to Janice to feel better and to Pam to sing good at Carnegie Hall next Monday.  You go, girl!

Stamp Camp, the Sequel

Got together with Jeannie, Pam and Helen Saturday to work on the projects from last week’s stamp camp.  I actually finished my ATC memory box and seaside canvas card (with a few touches this a.m. before I took pics).

Last week, I showed you the very rough draft of my ATC memory box.

Since then, I painted all the metal trinkets white and added a few more.

Here’s the finished product.  Not sure about the bow on the big key.  I decided not to paint the key white.  Great project, Tange.  I’ll hang it in my stamp room.  Click to see the details.  “Gave” this to Russel because he has the key to my heart.

Just as a teaser and because I can, here’s a pic of my favorite card off the sample wall at the Sale-A-Bration Celebration.  To me, it looks like she used the Elegant Butterfly punch, then stamped and fussy cut the little butterflies, before mounting all on an embossed piece of cardstock.

I made a card for Jeannie’s birthday on Friday, so I CASE’d the above card.  I used the same punch, but for the smaller contrasting butterflies I used one of the butterflies in the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.  Much easier, although I do love fussy cutting.

Creative Images Stamp Camp

Boy, howdy, has it been a long couple of months.  Lots of things happened since beginning of December, not the least of which was being sick for weeks, which pretty much ruined Christmas.  We went to Alabama for a week and finished up with Russel’s company party.  After that, everything went down hill fast.  It’s a good thing we put the tree up before we left, or it would never have gotten up.  Like Forrest, I’ll say that’s all I’m gonna say about that. 

Christmas is over, there was no Creative Images meeting/party in December, and I am now getting back in the saddle with my blog.  This last weekend, we had our January stamp camp, followed immediately by Jeannie, Helen and I going to a Sale-a-Bration Celebration put on by Stampin’ Up in Orlando.  Lots of pics, lots of fun.  I’ll start with the Stamp Camp and work on the SAB Celebration another day.

My nephew’s wife, Shana, asked me what a stamp camp is.  I told her I’d write all about it in my blog, so here goes.  Our stamp club, Creative Images, figures out which of several projects we would like to work on that take longer than we could do during our monthly meeting.  The members decided to go with Jeannie and Therese’s photo-transfer to canvas and Tange’s Artist Trading Card (ATC) memory box.  We also had our business meeting, nominating officers, planning the calendar, did our card exchange (left over from December) and had our Chinese gift exchange.  Busy day. 

First up, pictures of Jeannie’s and Therese’s samples.  They had taken laser color copies of photos, adhered them to canvas with a medium of some kind, I forget, rubbed off the paper, let it dry and attached the canvas to cards.  Click on a picture to see details, then back to return.  I love the glittery sand and shell on the first one.

 

I didn’t finish mine as it wasn’t drying fast enough.  Hope to finish it this weekend and put proper pictures on here.

Next we worked on Tange’s ATC memory box.  Tange and the club provided the boxes that hold 12 ATC’s.  Here are pics of two of Tange’s finished ones and one in progress to see how it’s done.  Again, click on the pics to see details, then back.

 

Before I had seen Tange’s red and black sample, I had decided on a black and white theme for my box.  I cut black rectangles to fit in the spaces, then slightly smaller pieces of designer papers, all different.  Tange went through her trinket box and we pulled out lots of little things.  I decided to add a couple of touches of red to make it pop.  A couple of brass things like the butterfly and clock I am going to paint white.  Here’s a pic of the basic idea.

For show and tell, Ella brought in her 12 days of Santa ATC memory box.  So cute!

We had five exchange cards, theme “Glittering Good Time.” First up is Lona’s.  Hard to see the glittery snow on the trees.

Ella had glittery champagne glasses!

Herman had glittery leaves, much prettier in real life.

November Stamp Club

I’m slow again, but at least this time, it’s still November!  We had lots of absentees for various reasons at the meeting, but we did our exchange of thank you cards and made our projects.  I couldn’t find my list of who did what, but I actually remembered!

First, Pam’s Upsy Daisy masked and sponged card, an oldie but goody.  I love black silhouettes.

Here’s Ella’s nostalgic swing on a tree with some Flower Soft grass to finish it off.

Herman did this bright patchwork quilted card. 

I made this Thanksgiving card using masking and a shimmery spray that’s hard to see in this pic.

Lona made this lovely card with some decorative scissors (I think) and embossing.

Jeannie had the project, a cute ATC with die cuts of layers and birdies and roses or posies, the latter to be quilled into pretty embellishments.  Jeannie had a conflict, so she gave everything to me to have Therese show how to make it, but Therese couldn’t come either.  Good thing I kinda sorta remembered how to quill flowers!  First up, Jeannie’s two samples.

On the left is Pam’s finished ATC and mine is on the right.  As Jeannie likes to point out to us, if we’re not all that into ATC’s, we can turn them into cards.  So, I did!  I mounted the ATC on a card front and had a lovely get well card I gave to Janice.  She’s home now.

When I went to see Janice, she showed me some cards her friend Millie had made.  I especially liked this one with the punched out black butterflies cut in half and layered under the white butterflies.
